A Monday Funday Book Review Times 2

Due to the weather and lousy Internet service last week, today's Monday Funday is going to be a review on a couple books I read last week. We had the insane rain, snow, sleet, hail, thunder, lightening and ice combo last week and with satellite Internet that just does not make a good mix.  Today we are supposed to have a 90% chance of rain and then snow again in the overnight and morning hours.  Our winter has been pretty mild up until this month and winter decided it was going to go out with a bang.

Now on with the book reviews...
The first one is...Goodbye to Yesterday A Lancaster County Saga by Wanda E. Brunstetter.  It is part 1 of a 6 part saga.  This means that the story is broken down into 6 books which are released over a six month period.

GoodbyeToYesterday Goodbye to Yesterday
Part 1 in The Discovery series.
Join Meredith and Luke Stoltzfus, an Amish couple who are faced with the greatest challenge of their young lives. Financial struggles. Arguments. A suspected pregnancy. A last-minute trip to Middlebury, Indiana. A deadly encounter at a Philadelphia bus station. Will their love and faith be enough to bring them back together again, against all odds?

From the back of the book...

When Luke Stolzfus loses his job at a furniture store in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, he is given an opportunity to learn a new trade from his uncle who lives in Indiana.  Despite his wife's reservations, Luke jumps at the chance and makes plans for a quick trip to Middlebury.  Along the way, Luke meets with tragedy, and life as he knew it will never be the same.  Despite all odds, will the faith and love Luke and Meredith share be enough to bring them back together again? Or will Meredith begin a new life with another?

I am a big fan of Christian Fiction and Christian Historical Fiction books.  I've read a few Amish books also, but not too many. Wanda E. Brunstetter is a wonderful author.  If you are fan of her other books, you know that she has done a lot  of research on the Amish culture and knows her stuff. I don't know if I am a big fan of the 6 book story line however. I was a little surprised at how small the book was for the price. The book started out a little slow, as some books that turn out to be really good do,  but did get better as it went on.  Then just as it was starting to get interesting, of course, it was over...Wait for the next book to come out.  UGH.  I guess they leave you hanging so you will go get that next book. And of course I will have to go get it so that I can find out what happens next.

I was given this book for review purposes by Handlebar Publishing, I was asked to give my honest opinion of the book. All opinions in this review are my own.

The other book that I just finished is...

Love Finds You in Sundance, Wyoming (Love Finds You) [ LOVE FINDS YOU IN SUNDANCE, WYOMING (LOVE FINDS YOU) BY Ferrell, Miralee ( Author ) Aug-01-2011

From the back of the book...
Angel Ramirez is tired of living a lie.  But can she live like a lady?  On the run from a dangerous outlaw, Angel makes her way across several states disguised as a boy and working as a varmint tracker and horse wrangler.  After taking a job on a Wyoming ranch owned by bachelor Travis Morgan and his widowed sister, she finally reveals her true identity and must fight to prove her worth as a ranch hand while somehow discovering her role as a woman.

I am a big fan of the Love Finds You books.  I have read about 75% or more of them, including another of Miralee's books...Love Finds You in Bridal Veil, Oregon.  The are all great and this one was no exception.  I tend to lean more towards the historical fiction books and this one did not disappoint me.  This book is set in 1887 Wyoming ranch territory.  Angel has been hiding the fact that she is a woman so that she can do what she loves and stay hidden from the man who is hunting for her.  When she is offered a job at a different ranch, she decides it is time to stop hiding and prove herself as a woman.  Angel has had a rough life and is a tomboy who has a VERY LARGE chip on her shoulder.  But, due to a few incidents and accidents that happen along the way, that chip disappears and she opens up and finds friends.

My favorite part of these books is there is no foul language and no detailed "Love Scenes".  My 13 year old daughter loves to read the books that mom is reading, and I love the fact that I can share them with her and not have to worry about her reading something she should not be.  She started reading this one over the weekend and has not been able to put it down for very long.  She keeps coming and asking me what happens next. Of course I keep tell her to "read the book".  She moans and off she goes again to read.

You can visit Miralee's website for information on all of her other wonderful books.

I requested this book for review purposes from Christian Review of Books. All opinions are my own.
